Journey to Imperial College
Insightful keynotes
Prof. Ghosh initiated the first session inviting our Alumni and an esteemed Course Coordinator from Imperial College, London.
Live interactive session by Mr Gavin Eaves
Mr Gavin Eaves, Course Coordinator, MSc Sustainable Energy Futures, Imperial College, London giving detailed insights into this program.
A flawless keynote address from our Alumnus - Mr Akash Goenka
Alumnus of both SMEC, VIT and Energy Futures Lab, Imperial College was the Chief Guest. Mr Goenka is a Senior Associate with the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy, New Delhi liaising closely with the Governments of India and other Asian countries
Unconditional Support
Prof. Agilandeeswari giving a vote of thanks and concluding the session.
Key insigths of the session-
This session was entitled 'Journey to Imperial College' and was conducted on 14 July 2023 at the Ambedkar Auditorium 5-7 pm. The Session was very special because a distinguished Alumnus of both SMEC, VIT and Energy Futures Lab, Imperial College was the Chief Guest. Mr Goenka is a Senior Associate with the Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy, New Delhi liaising closely with the Governments of India and other Asian countries. He drafts plans for India's Cooling Action Plan and has been invited to speak at prestigious International Forums including the COP22 and The Montreal Protocol Meet 2023 recently concluded in Thailand. His features have been published widely including in the Economic Times.
It was the Committee's great privilege that the Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr Partha Sarathy Mallick was present and gave the Introductory Speech. He explained the need for VIT students to venture to world leading Institutions such as Imperial College to enrich themselves, their parent institutions, as well as their nation.
This was followed by a live interactive session by Mr Gavin Eaves, Course Coordinator, MSc Sustainable Energy Futures, Imperial College London. He began with an introduction to the Programme highlighting how such a programme impacted society at large and its role in shaping pathways to sustainability worldwide. Typically there are 400 received applications from all over the world and about 10% are offered seats. The selection procedure involved the reputation of the applicant Institution (he graciously mentioned that in their estimation VIT was very respectable), the academic grades, motivation essay and any outstanding accomplishments (awards and high quality journal publications). He then took questions from the students. Students asked if specific backgrounds were preferred for this program and Gavin clearly stated that it was a very multidisciplinary program and encouraged diverse applicants from all Engineering disciplines, including data science and computer engineering.

Professor Mary Saral pertinently asked about the availability of Funding and Gavin talked about the Chevening Scholarship which was very competitive. There was a very lively exchange on the theme of 'Life in Imperial College' and in the city of London.
The day's highlight was the Akash Goenka session entitled 'Journey to Imperial College'. He charted his journey from La Martiniere Calcutta, through VIT, and then to Imperial College. He enthused the gathered students with pictures, anecdotes and many procedural details with great care and elan and delivered his talk with unmatched fluency and academic depth.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks and an animated session led by Professor Agilanddeswari
